3 Day Diet Review – Does It Work?

There are a lot of diets out there that claim to help you lose weight in a matter of weeks, but a weight loss plan that says you will lose up to 10 pounds in three days sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Let’s take a look at the three day diet plan and how it works.

What is the 3 Day Diet Plan?

Here is a general overview of the 3 day diet. People who are on the diet have to follow the diet to a “T.” Each type of food has a specific amount that you are allowed to eat, and you must eat exactly that much, nothing more, nothing less.

Here’s exactly what it looks like.

Day 1

Breakfast:

  • Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal
  • 1/2 grapefruit or juice
  • 1 piece toast with 1 tablespoon peanut butter

Lunch:

  • 1/2 cup tuna
  • 1 piece toast
  • Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal

Dinner:

  • 3 ounces any lean meat or chicken
  • 1 cup green beans
  • 1 cup carrots
  • 1 apple
  • 1 cup regular vanilla ice cream

Day 2

Breakfast:

  • Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 piece toast

Lunch:

  • 1 cup cottage cheese or tuna
  • 8 regular saltine crackers

Dinner:

  • 2 beef franks
  • 1 cup broccoli or cabbage
  • 1/2 cup carrots
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 cup regular vanilla ice cream

Day 3:

Breakfast:

  • Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal
  • 5 regular saltine crackers
  • 1 ounce cheddar cheese
  • 1 apple

Lunch:

  • Black coffee or tea, with 1-2 packets Sweet & Low or Equal
  • 1 boiled egg
  • 1 piece toast

Dinner:

  • 1 cup tuna
  • 1 cup carrots
  • 1 cup cauliflower
  • 1 cup melon
  • 1/2 cup regular vanilla ice cream

There are a handful of substitutions that you can make, either due to allergies or food aversions. Take a look:

-   Grapefruit can be replaced with oranges.

-   Cottage cheese can be replaced with tuna and vice versa.

-   Ice cream can be replaced with frozen yogurt.

-   Broccoli can be replaced with either cauliflower or green beans; cauliflower can be replaced with green beans or broccoli.

-   Carrots can be replaced with beets.

-   5 crackers can be replaced with one piece of toast.

How is this supposed to help?

If this seems like an odd combination of food, that’s because it is. What is so “special” about this combination of food that it can help you lose that much weight over a three day period of time? Apparently, the claim is that the way that these foods work together is what helps to encourage the weight loss. The metabolic reaction from this style of eating is supposed to stay maintained throughout periods of normal eating. The diet plan is supposed to be done for 3 days at a time, and then you’re supposed to go back to your normal eating for four to five days.

Does it work?

Well, this is the important question that we always come back to. Some people have seen success with the three day diet, especially during the first two weeks of 3 days on, 4 days off. Here are some of the potential issues that you are looking at.

-   Because of the low carbohydrates and low calories, the weight you’re losing is more water weight than it is fat.

-   Since the days that you are not on the diet have no regimen, it encourages unhealthy dieting habits. You may be more likely to “gorge” yourself during the 4-5 days you can eat.

The 3 day diet, is not a healthy way to lose weight. It may “kick start” your weight loss, but other than that, it’s probably not a good way to try and lose weight for good. Since water is an important part nourishment for the body being able to heal, losing as much water weight as possible does not solve an over weight problem for individuals. Overall our outlook on this diet is that it may provide some extremely quick results that will be lost within a matter of days after the initial three.
